SI has the authority to investigate all cases that fall under his police station's jurisdiction. However, he/she is unable to examine matters assigned to superior officials such as DSP or ACP. A Sub Inspector serves as a link between the higher-ranking cops and the lower-ranking cops.

Candidates must possess a Bachelor's Degree from a UGC-recognized university. Degrees obtained through regular, distance, or open university modes are accepted if they follow the prescribed educational pattern.

Tamil Eligibility Test → Main Written Exam → PMT → ET → PET → Viva-Voce → Medical Examination → Final Selection

• Tamil Language Eligibility Test: 100 questions, 100 marks, minimum 40% marks required.
